BYD DM-i Plug-in Hybrid Technology: Electricity as the Primary Element, Gasoline as a Secondary Element

The BYD SUPER HYBRID is equipped with DM-i plug-in hybrid technology, which uses electricity as the primary element and gasoline as a secondary element. Through an intelligent system, it precisely manages the energy source, achieving a perfect balance between high efficiency and flexibility, whether for daily commutes or traveling from Hong Kong to the mainland. The BYD SUPER HYBRID combines the advantages of both new energy vehicles and gasoline vehicles.

The core of BYD's DM-i architecture is "electric-centric" and comprises three core technologies:

Ultra-efficient Hybrid Engine:A 1.5L high-efficiency engine specifically designed for DM-i, boasting world-leading thermal efficiency (up to 43.04%) and outstanding power and torque output.

Blade Battery:Independently developed by BYD, tailor-made for the hybrid platform, offering a pure electric range of 50 to 252 kilometers (depending on the model), combining high safety and high stability.

Electric Hybrid System (EHS): A highly integrated powertrain that integrates high-speed dual motors, dual controllers, and advanced oil-cooling technology, significantly improving motor power density and efficiency.

 

The DM-i system automatically balances the battery, motor, and engine: when the battery is fully charged, the vehicle operates in pure electric mode; when the battery is low, the engine starts to charge the battery or provide auxiliary power. This system not only saves fuel but also maintains the vehicle's high performance.

How to achieve "short-distance electricity use and long-distance hybrid energy use"—an operation mode primarily based on electricity:

• In urban driving conditions with low battery levels, the system is primarily driven by the electric motor, achieving ultra-low fuel consumption for daily urban commutes.

• For short trips, pure electric mode can be used, while for longer journeys, it switches to high-efficiency hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) mode, completely eliminating range anxiety.
